About us

We build the software small businesses keep being told they cannot afford

Big Fish Consulting Group has been doing this since 2019. Same idea then as now: the tooling that makes a big company efficient is not actually expensive to build — it is just rarely built for anyone small.

  • We quote a fixed price and hold it
  • We demo working software weekly, never slides
  • We tell you when you should not hire us
  • We hand over documentation, not dependency

Our story

Big Fish started with one frustrated contractor, a shared spreadsheet, and a quoting process that took three days.

We fixed it in a fortnight. Then the same problem turned up at a fleet operator, and a tutoring centre, and a distributor — different industries, identical shape. Smart people doing work a computer should be doing, because the software that would have solved it was priced for a company with a hundred times their headcount.

So we built a practice around exactly that gap. Eight areas now, all of them started as a client problem rather than a business plan. We stay small deliberately: the person who scopes your project is the person who builds it, and there is nobody in the middle translating between you.

We are remote-first and work with businesses across North America. What we are not is an enterprise consultancy taking small clients on the side — small business is the entire practice.

What we believe

Four things we will not compromise on

Small business is the whole point

We are not an enterprise consultancy taking small clients on the side. Every process we run — pricing, timelines, support — is built for teams without an IT department.

Honest scoping

If an off-the-shelf tool solves your problem for $50 a month, we will tell you and point you at it. Long-term clients are worth more to us than one oversold project.

You own everything

Code, data, accounts and documentation are yours from day one. No proprietary platform, no hostage hosting, no fee to walk away.

AI with the guardrails on

Automation should be logged, reversible and supervised where it matters. We build the oversight before we build the autonomy.

Working together

What the first month looks like

Predictable enough that you can plan around it.

Book the discovery call
  1. Discovery call

Thirty minutes, no charge, no deck. We ask what is slow, what is manual and what it costs you — and we will tell you plainly if software is not the answer.

  2. Audit and proposal

We map the workflow, quantify the hours and dollars on the table, and come back with a fixed-price plan. If the numbers do not justify the work, we say so.

  3. Build in the open

Weekly demos of working software, never status slides. You steer as it takes shape, and there are no surprises at handover.

  4. Launch and hand over

We train your team, document everything and hand you the keys — your accounts, your code, your data. Support afterwards is a choice, not a lock-in.

Questions

Common questions

How much does a project cost?

Websites start around $4,500, automation engagements around $6,000, and full custom platforms from $16,000. Every project is quoted at a fixed price after a free audit, so you know the number before you commit.

How quickly can you start?

We typically have capacity to begin within two to three weeks of a signed proposal. Discovery calls are usually available the same week you ask.

Do you work with businesses outside North America?

Yes. We are remote-first and work across time zones, though we keep overlapping hours with every client rather than handing off overnight.

What if we already have a developer?

That often works well. We can build the piece they do not have time or specialism for, hand it over documented, and stay out of the way afterwards.

Do you offer ongoing support?

Optional monthly care plans cover monitoring, updates and a set number of change hours. They are month-to-month — if you stop needing us, you stop paying us.

Who owns the code and data?

You do, entirely, from the first commit. Everything lives in accounts registered to your business and you can take it elsewhere at any time.
